The SQ6 and Instax Link Wide photo printer...

Been shooting away trying to master the cameras and films (for another blog entry).

Took out some of the Fujifilm offerings (which, sadly are just point and shoots with hardly any control over the photo taking).

One thing is for certain, they nail the shot (as any good point and shoot & cellphone) should do.

THE SQ6...

The SQ6 is considered the best Fuji Square Format camera to date.  Sadly they discontinued it a while back and it's replacement is good but even less involved and requires you to charge the camera (no replaceable batteries).  Thankfully I bought a bunch of them (they are destined to be used at my wedding) but now may hoard them since the price has been going up for used models.

This camera lives up to Dr.Land's statement "The kind of photography that will be part of the human being, press a button and have the picture"

THE LINK WIDE PRINTER....

While learning the art, the kittens that are living in my yard came out for a peek.  I did take a couple of images of them on film but because they are still wild, they would run if I approached them.

So out comes the S23 Ultra and zoom on in to capture the moment.

Took the image, edit them and printed it off on Instax Wide film.

Nice shot.

So what's this about...

If the goal is just to get a nice shot and perhaps print a phone photo, the SQ6 and Link Wide printer are great.

One thing about it, as much as I appreciate the end results, it's "THE DOING" that is important.

Mastering metering, focusing, composition, understanding the limitations of the gear in your hand, knowing what the film is capable of, etc... putting it together "in your head" and if the results are what you what.... NIRVANA.

Just like driving a manual transmission car.  If YOU do it and do it right... what a feeling.

That also goes back to my previous blogs... it's about the journey and not necessarily the result that matters.

The must reads for Instant Photography...

Just received the 3rd book - A Triumph of Genius.  Written by a lawyer who represented Polaroid back then, it is considered one of the better books about the history of the old Polaroid Corporation.

Instant covers the more recent Polaroid and the Impossible Project.

The Polaroid Land Photography will have less relevance today since the pack film is gone but gives good insight on how to be use the limitations of Polaroid film.

All film and photography students know of the must read trilogy of Ansel Adams (The Print, The Negative and The Camera).  Only those who really delved in knew that Ansel actually wrote a 4th book - Polaroid Land Photography.

Yes folks.... I'm back in deep.

Been away too long...

Realized it's been over a decade since I added anything to this site.  Honest truth... I forgot all about it.

With the holiday season, I called up my childhood, got the ol' Polaroid out and began using it.  A couple of so so car shots to get the nostalgia going.  Something clicked, and I ended up going back to getting gear out, buying some new gear and have started the shooting thing once again.

Just like this Polaroid Colorpack did to me in 1970, it has brought something back that I had lost.

More to come...
